Morris H. Coats

In class this week we received the files of the soldiers we are going to be working on for the rest of the semester for our project. I received Pvt Morris Coats from Co A of the 136th New York. He spent most of his life in Wirt, New York where he was married to Adeline Smith and had three children, 2 boys and a daughter. He enlisted at the age of 36 and finished out his 3 year commitment even though he was injured in the Battle of Peach Tree Creek where he suffered slight damage to his arm and chin. He continued his occupation as a farmer up until the final year of his life when he died in March of 1911. I look forward to learning more about where Pvt Coats ventured in his three years of service.
