Week #2

We began the class by talking about the differences between HTML and XML. When someone looks at a webpage they don’t know all the code that is used to set it up. I for one have taken a class on HTML and have had to create my own webpage, so I have a little understanding on all the code used to create something as simple as a text box within a web page.

Following that we focused more on the history aspect of the course and looked into how historians view history. I historian looking at a period in time will view things differently then those in other academic fields, for example they have no problem with a persons bias and don’t make generalizations about the past. As a class we then began to discuss the advantages and disadvantages that the advancements in technology have had on history. For example, a document could be scanned onto the internet like the letter we looked at in class which can now be viewed by people all over the world making that particular piece of history very accessible. At the same time, some of these works are being given to databases that can be costly to sign up to in order to view some of these pieces of history.
